U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan Invites Proposals for American Spaces Program Expansion

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, has announced two new funding opportunities for support of the American Spaces program countrywide. This will enhance cultural exchange, educational experience, and community engagement through the network of American Spaces located in Gharm, Isfara, Khorugh, Khujand, Kulob, and Panjakent.

Expanding American Spaces in Tajikistan

The first funding opportunity will be the Programmatic and Administrative Award. Which aims to continue activities in six American Spaces outside Dushanbe and Bokhtar. These spaces bring opportunities for working relationships and implementing people-to-people exchanges between the United States of America and the Republic of Tajikistan. The Grantee shall be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, logistic efficiency, staff training, equipment servicing, and program development. The American Embassy has also been keen on maintaining the tempo of its operations with high standards, through the innovation of social media strategies that create public engagement.

The second funding opportunity is available for the American Spaces Support Funds. Which expand programmatic activity in all eight American Spaces in Tajikistan. Targeting diverse audiences, such as youth, women, educators, and professionals, with special emphasis on economically disadvantaged persons and USG program alumni. It provides activities including English language instruction, STEM education, entrepreneurship training, and activities to raise environmental awareness.

Bilateral Relations and Education in Tajikistan

The common goals between the two funding opportunities are to bear out improved bilateral relations, English language ability, and community engagement for countering violent extremism and economic opportunities. Added to this is the exploration of possible opportunities in regional connectivity, along with pursuits in culture and education.

Under the PD funding, activities include increasing operational efficiency of American Spaces expanding audience through social media online platforms, and building professional capacity among Space facilitators. The ASSF project will conduct a diverse range of programming activities aimed at achieving the Mission objectives. With the most significant share going into English language teaching, educational advising, alumni engagement, skill enhancements, and strategic cultural programs.

Funding Details and Eligibility

Awards range from $18,550 to $540,000 with a 12-month performance period and possible extensions. Not-for-profit organizations, civil society groups, and public/private educational institutions are eligible to apply. Ceiling amounts were allocated to various American Spaces differently for each funding opportunity to ensure there was tailored support based on the needs and local capabilities.

Audience and Impact

Direct beneficiaries of activities under this Call for Proposals are the following: ambitious urban and underserved rural youth, school and university teachers, early/mid-career professionals, girls and women, representatives of civil society, USG program alumni, people with disabilities, and Afghan refugees living in Tajikistan. Enhanced access to education materials, skill-building, and cultural exposure will benefit each of the above-mentioned groups.

Call for Proposals

The Embassy hereby invites the eligible organizations to submit competitive proposals. Which would prove the capacity of the organization in the management of an American Space or multiple American Spaces. It is looking forward to seeing innovation, community engagement, and capability toward the address of the large diversity within Tajikistan’s population through effective programming.

Detailed guidelines and instructions are available on the U.S. Embassy Dushanbe website. Applications must be received no later than Deadline Date. Awards will be made on or about this date. Applicants who succeed will also enjoy extensive support and guidance from the Public Diplomacy Section. To ensure that their work aligns with the goals and objectives set forth by the Embassy.
