Trump White House amplifies Melania’s fight as retractions pile up over Epstein stories

First Lady Melania Trump has taken an unusually direct approach in fighting off stories linking her to Jeffrey Epstein. Her team has called these stories “false” and “defamatory” and has pressed media outlets and public figures to issue retractions.

First Lady’s Legal Team Moves Swiftly

According to people familiar with the matter, her attorneys have been instructed to act quickly against anyone repeating claims about her and Epstein.

This campaign has already resulted in several media retractions and public apologies. The first lady herself has also posted updates about these corrections on her social media accounts. The White House has further amplified these posts, signaling that this issue has become a priority.

The action stands out because Melania Trump usually avoids direct confrontation in the media. In the past, she and her office have stayed quiet about many controversial issues. But in this case, her team is pursuing a far more aggressive strategy.

Media Outlets Issue Retractions

One of the most high-profile cases involved The Daily Beast, which published an article in July suggesting that Epstein had a role in introducing Melania Trump to Donald Trump. The story was based on claims made in an interview with an author. Soon after the article went live, the first lady’s lawyers reached out to challenge it.

The outlet quickly changed its story, adding an editor’s note to explain why the article was updated. Later, the note was expanded to say that a related podcast episode was also edited. That episode had included similar claims about Melania Trump. Both the headline and parts of the podcast were taken down.

The Daily Beast was not the only publication affected. A book about Britain’s Prince Andrew also included references linking Epstein to Melania Trump. After review, several passages mentioning her were removed before the book was widely released. Both the UK and US editions of the book were changed, though it remains unclear if legal pressure played a role.

In her own book, Melania Trump has described how she first met her husband at a New York City party in 1998. She has said that Epstein was not involved in the introduction.

Pressure on Public Figures

The effort has not been limited to media outlets. Melania Trump’s lawyers have also contacted well-known political figures after comments they made on podcasts or interviews. Her team demanded formal retractions and apologies, warning that legal action could follow otherwise.

One political commentator issued a statement apologizing for claims he made about Melania Trump and Epstein. He also confirmed that his team edited out parts of a podcast episode that had mentioned her. Both the first lady and President Trump later highlighted this apology on social media.

Another case involved a letter sent by Melania Trump’s personal attorney to a prominent political figure. The letter demanded a retraction and warned of possible damages of more than $1 billion if the claims were not withdrawn.

The political figure rejected the demand in strong language during a later interview. As of mid-September, no lawsuit has been filed, but the exchange shows how far the first lady’s team is willing to go.

Through these actions, Melania Trump has shown that she is determined to stop any link being drawn between her and Epstein. She has never been accused of wrongdoing connected to him, and her team has stressed that false claims cause her serious harm.

The direct and fast-paced pushback is a sharp break from her normally quiet approach, making this one of the most forceful defenses led by the first lady since entering public life.
