Shocking Cyberattack Paralyzes Aeroflot Flights Causing Travel Chaos at Russian Airports

Russian airline Aeroflot has suffered a serious cyberattack, forcing it to cancel over 100 flights on Monday, July 28, 2025. Many other flights were also delayed. This caused major chaos at airports across Russia, especially at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport, where hundreds of passengers were left stranded.

Over 100 Aeroflot Flights Cancelled After Major Cyberattack

The airline’s computer systems stopped working completely due to the attack. This led to problems with check-in, boarding, and even flight tracking. Aeroflot is Russia’s biggest airline, and the sudden shutdown affected both domestic and international flights.

Flights going to countries like Belarus, Armenia, and Uzbekistan were among those delayed or cancelled. Two other airline companies that work with Aeroflot—Rossiya and Pobeda—also faced problems. Many passengers had to wait in long queues with little information about their flights.

The airline has not said exactly when services will return to normal. Passengers were told to check their flight status online and consider other travel options.

Hacker Groups Silent Crow and Belarus Cyber-Partisans Take Credit

Two hacker groups claimed responsibility for the attack. One is Silent Crow, which is based in Ukraine. The other is the Belarus Cyber-Partisans, a group known for hacking government systems.

The hackers broke into Aeroflot’s network and took control of its computer systems. Reports say that Silent Crow had been inside the airline’s system for nearly a year. During that time, they reportedly copied customer data, internal messages, and even security camera footage. They later destroyed or locked much of this information, causing long-term damage.

The hackers said they found many weak points in Aeroflot’s systems. They used these to crash the network at once. Silent Crow posted a message on its Telegram channel saying they were behind the attack. They also claimed to have accessed personal data of passengers, though this information has not yet been confirmed.

The Belarus Cyber-Partisans also said they helped carry out the attack. They are known for targeting government systems and said this operation took months of planning. Their goal was to cause serious trouble for Aeroflot and make the airline feel the impact for a long time.

Russian Airports Hit Hard as Airline Scrambles for Recovery

The effects of the cyberattack were seen right away. Flights were cancelled or delayed. Check-in counters didn’t work. Airport staff had trouble helping passengers. At Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, hundreds of people waited for hours without knowing when they could fly.

Aeroflot’s support teams struggled to fix the system, but the damage was deep. Other airports across Russia also faced problems. With Aeroflot being the country’s main airline, the attack caused nationwide confusion.

This is not the first problem Russian aviation has faced recently. Drone strikes and other issues have already hurt airport operations in the country. But this cyberattack is one of the worst so far, hitting Aeroflot’s systems at their core.

Experts say that such attacks are now more common. Airlines and airports around the world are becoming regular targets for hackers. And when these systems go down, it’s the passengers who suffer the most.

For now, Aeroflot is working hard to get things back to normal. But the large number of cancellations and delays shows just how much damage a single cyberattack can do to a major airline. Passengers are being asked to remain patient as the airline continues its recovery efforts.
