A public issue of NCDs is offered to everyone through a prospectus, much like a share IPO. You can apply through your bank (ASBA) or the UPI route, usually from ₹10,000, and the NCDs are listed on BSE or NSE after allotment.
The prospectus sets out the series on offer (tenure, coupon, interest frequency), the rating, the security, the debenture trustee and the issuer's financial statements. Issues often have investor categories with different allotment rules, and allotment may be first come, first served or proportionate.
Public NCD issues are popular with NBFCs and gold loan companies. Read the rating rationale and check the issuer's existing bonds before applying.
