Kamala Harris slams DOJ’s impartiality, calls Trump-era prosecutions politically motivated

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has openly questioned the integrity of the Department of Justice (DOJ) under President Donald Trump, claiming that the agency is being used as a weapon for political revenge. During an interview on MSNBC’s The Weekend, Harris said that she believes the DOJ is no longer functioning independently and that Americans “can’t trust” its actions.

Harris Questions Justice System Under Trump

Harris, who served as California’s Attorney General and spent decades as a prosecutor, expressed disappointment over what she described as the “manipulation” of the justice system for personal gain. Her comments came in response to recent indictments involving former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both of whom have publicly clashed with Trump in the past.

According to Harris, these developments suggest that the Trump administration is on a “vengeance campaign”, using federal law enforcement tools to target political opponents. She argued that such actions threaten the very foundation of America’s judicial system, which is supposed to remain impartial and free from political influence.

After historic run, Kamala Harris faces toughest question yet: what now?

When asked by host Eugene Daniels whether Americans should have faith in the DOJ under the current administration, Harris was direct in her response. “I don’t know if we can trust what’s coming out of the Department of Justice right now,” she said. “And that pains me to say that as someone who spent the majority of my career as a prosecutor, where the work of a prosecutor should be to do justice.”

‘Justice System Should Be Blind,’ Harris Says

Harris further explained that the core duty of prosecutors and U.S. attorneys is to seek justice, not revenge. She emphasized that legal professionals must be able to carry out their responsibilities “without fear and not in the interest of favor.” However, according to her, that principle “is not what is ruling the day” under Trump’s leadership.

The former vice president voiced concern that the current administration is undermining the idea of fairness that is central to the American legal system. “When you have an administration and individuals who are manipulating the justice system of America in that way,” Harris said, “they best understand that this is not only about something that affects the individuals that they’re targeting. This affects all of us.”

Harris added that the justice system should remain “blind” — meaning that it should not treat people differently because of their identity, appearance, or political beliefs. “Flawed though it may be, a justice system is supposed to be blind in the way that it does its work, not targeting people because of who they are, or for that matter, what they look like,” she said.

The Department of Justice has not issued a formal response to Harris’s remarks. However, Fox News Digital reported that inquiries were made to the department for comment following her interview.

Harris’s criticism comes amid growing public debate over the Trump administration’s influence on the nation’s law enforcement agencies. Several of Trump’s political opponents have claimed that the administration’s legal decisions reflect retaliation rather than justice.

Memoir Tour Sparks Fresh Wave of Public Engagement

Harris’s interview is part of a series of recent public appearances promoting her new memoir, “107 Days.” The book, which details her experiences during and after her tenure as vice president, has sparked conversations about her time in office and her views on the current political climate.

At a Los Angeles book event last week, Harris made headlines after using strong language to describe the Trump administration. Addressing the audience, she said, “There’s so much about this moment that is making people feel like they’ve lost their minds. When, in fact, these motherf—— are crazy.” The crowd reportedly reacted with both surprise and applause.

Her candid tone and fiery remarks have drawn attention from both supporters and critics. While some praised her for speaking bluntly about what she sees as political corruption, others accused her of trying to stay relevant by making controversial comments.

Award stage turns battlefield as Harris brands Trump an unchecked, incompetent and unhinged President

Harris’s latest comments about the DOJ’s integrity follow months of political tension between the Trump administration and its critics. Reports of investigations into individuals who previously opposed Trump have heightened concerns among lawmakers, legal experts, and civil rights groups.

Her statement that Americans “can’t trust” the DOJ adds to a larger national conversation about political influence in law enforcement. For many observers, Harris’s comments echo longstanding concerns about the balance between justice and politics in Washington, D.C.

During her MSNBC appearance, Harris maintained that her perspective comes from her professional background rather than partisanship. “I say this as someone who has been on the inside,” she noted. “The work of justice must always be about fairness, and that’s what I fear is being lost right now.”

As Harris continues to promote her memoir and speak out on political issues, her remarks have reignited discussions about the role of independence in federal institutions and whether those principles are being upheld.
