Jon Voight claims Zohran Mamdani’s win is a threat and calls for action from Donald Trump

Actor Jon Voight has set off a major wave of public discussion after posting a two-minute video asking President Donald J. Trump to “terminate” the results of New York City’s mayoral election, which was won by Zohran Mamdani. Standing in front of an American flag, Voight looks straight into the camera and claims that only Trump can “stop this horror.”

Voight recently received a symbolic role from Trump during the first days of Trump’s second term, and he used this new public spotlight to call for direct action. In his video, Voight says that Mamdani will “destroy New York’s wealth” and turn the city into what he calls a “socialist crap city.”

“We the people have put our trust in the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Voight says. “He, and only he, can stop this horror.” His message quickly spread online, drawing national reactions.

Voight ends his video with a warning to viewers, saying, “Let this be a warning to the people,” urging that the President must step in to stop Mamdani’s mayoral win.

Voight’s Claims Trigger Strong Reactions

Much of the public’s response focused on Voight’s intense language about Zohran Mamdani, who is set to become the next mayor of New York City. Voight uses sharp and Islamophobic rhetoric, claiming the city will “turn into a virtual refugee shelter for the radical Muslim ideology.” These claims have been widely challenged, as there is no evidence supporting them.

Voight also labels Mamdani a “communist,” even though Mamdani has clearly described himself as a democratic socialist. In the video, Voight calls the days following Mamdani’s win “the most dangerous time for our citizens,” insisting that Mamdani will harm the city’s businesses, private spaces, and property.

He also says, “This 35-year-old mayor has no right dictating the rules of socialism for a city built on our highest principles.” He goes on to demand that Mamdani’s mayoralty be “terminated immediately.” Voight says that the people of New York are “in danger of losing your city to this communist fool.”

These statements spread quickly online, with many people pointing out the inaccuracies and inflammatory tone. It is important to note that the President does not have the legal authority to remove a city mayor. New York City’s elections are determined by local voters, and the results cannot be overturned by the President.

Despite this fact, Voight insists that Trump must intervene.

Zohran Mamdani’s Election and What Led to the Outcry

The election that brought Zohran Mamdani into office was decided by a clear majority of votes. Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo, the former governor of New York, who ran as an Independent after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary. Mamdani’s win marks a significant moment in the city’s political history, especially given his age and strong base of support.

Mamdani is scheduled to take office on January 1. As he prepares for the start of his term, the release of Voight’s video has added unexpected public drama to the weeks following the election.

Jon Voight does not live in New York City—his primary home is in Beverly Hills, California—yet he speaks strongly about what he believes will happen under Mamdani’s leadership. His video remains online and continues to be shared widely, with supporters and critics reacting to his dramatic appeal to President Donald Trump.

Even as the video gains attention, the election results remain unchanged. Zohran Mamdani’s victory stands, and preparations for his term continue as scheduled.
