Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple network hacked, police register cyber case

Temple Computer Systems Breached

A major security scare has shaken Thiruvananthapuram after the computer network of the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple was hacked. The cyber attack caused serious concern as key programmes and files inside the system were altered without permission.

Officials confirmed that the breach was detected in the days leading up to June 13. Following the discovery, a complaint was lodged with the city’s Cyber Police. A formal case has now been registered and a probe is underway to identify those behind the attack.

The incident has raised questions about the safety of sensitive information connected to the temple. While it is not yet clear what data may have been leaked, the possibility of financial fraud and disruption to security systems is being closely examined. Investigators are also checking if online transactions linked to the temple were affected.

According to the complaint, the hacking attempt appeared to target the smooth functioning of the temple’s computer systems. The intrusion not only damaged internal programmes but also attempted to disable the network itself, creating a risk of shutting down normal operations.

Employee Suspected of Misuse

Police suspect that a temporary staff member who once worked in the IT section of the temple may be involved in the hacking. This employee was transferred some months ago after officials raised concerns about his behaviour and activities.

Even after being moved from the IT role, the person still accessed the temple’s computer systems. Investigators think he took sensitive data from senior officials’ computers. He also blocked some administrators from logging in. This stopped access to several important files.

The matter gained further seriousness when groups linked to temple affairs began exerting pressure on higher officials. Disputes around the temple’s management also emerged during this period. According to the complaint, the hacking incident may have been connected to attempts to interfere with administrative functioning.

The temple authorities saw unusual activities. They called an outside cyber expert to check. The check confirmed there was a hacking attempt. After this, the matter was reported to the police. A criminal case was then opened.

Police Begin Cyber Investigation

The City Cyber Police have begun their probe. They want to find out how big the breach is. Officers are checking if the motive was financial fraud, personal gain, or an attempt to break the temple’s network security. They are also collecting digital proof to see how the system was entered.

The complaint said the hacking was not a single event. It happened after tensions in the temple administration. Reports say a group of people tried to pressure or scare officials during that time. This makes the case look even more suspicious.

The investigation is looking at how the suspect logged in after his transfer. Police think he may have used old access rights or technical gaps to enter. They are also checking if he got help from inside.

The temple’s systems are now under close watch. Authorities have made access tighter. They are working with experts to stop any new breach.

The case is being treated as very important because of the temple’s status and sensitive work. Police are checking the complaint, digital logs, and forensic reports to understand what happened.
